The Night of the Sleeping Woman and Popocatépetl

A comedy dinner: the director never showed up, so guests rewrite and direct the legend of Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl live, with an alternative ending.

The story

According to the official story, the Sleeping Woman sleeps forever while Popocatépetl watches over her with volcanic love. According to this experience… that sounds like an emotionally unsustainable relationship.

With dark humor and modern references — toxic relationships, ancestral ghosting, eternal loves nobody questioned — the night asks: what if this story was never romantic, just badly edited?

How it works

Between courses, guests rewrite key scenes, decide motivations and dialogue, vote and direct “Popo” (intense, jealous, dramatic) and the Sleeping Woman (fed up, lucid or dangerously awake, as they decide) live.

Three courses, three scenes: “Before the Tragedy,” “The Silence” and “The Ending Nobody Told Us,” whose outcome the guests choose.

The characters

  • Popocatépetl: intense, jealous and dramatic.
  • The Sleeping Woman: fed up, lucid… or dangerously awake.

What's included

  • 3-course dinner
  • Two professional actors
  • Live scriptwriting and directing activities
  • Stage props (bells, cloaks, symbolic fire, cards)
  • Group votes
  • An alternative ending created by the guests

What you take home

  • A unique version of the legend created by the group
  • Laughter and reflection on idealized love
  • The experience of creating together and directing without knowing how

History and culture in every scene

As in all our experiences, the hosts' dialogue and the event's activities are written with real information about Mexican history and culture. You have fun and, without even noticing, you learn. The hosts explain the origin and meaning of the legend or tradition, and where the symbols, rituals and customs that appear during the night come from.
