La Catrina's Grim Agents: Bureaucracy of the Underworld

A Day of the Dead dinner show: two agents from the underworld check if the living honor their dead, and each table must build a correct altar against the clock.

The story

Tonight, two official agents from Mictlán burst into the world of the living for a ritual inspection. Guests aren't just diners: they're directly responsible for the altar that will open or close the passage between worlds.

On arrival they pass a spiritual checkpoint, and each table receives a Mictlán File, a case number and official warnings: “ignorance of the ritual is no excuse.”

How it works

The central activity is “Build the Altar”: each table receives incomplete ritual elements — marigolds, candles, sugar skulls — and must assemble a correct ofrenda in record time, following explanations given during dinner.

The Inspector checks tables, takes notes, stamps or issues citations; La Catrina judges aesthetics, respect and spiritual dignity. The show runs without interrupting service.

The characters

  • Inspector Calavera: an ancient official obsessed with regulations and official stamps.
  • La Catrina Diva: elegant and cutting; she never forgives pan de muerto without sesame or a scented candle instead of copal.
