The New Fire Ceremony: An Outdoor Mezcal Tasting

An outdoor mezcal tasting inspired by the Aztec New Fire ritual: guests must gather and align the solar calendar so the sun will rise again.

The story

For the Mexica, the New Fire ceremony was held every 52 years: all fires were put out and a new one was lit to ensure the sun would keep rising.

This time, the sun will only return if guests realign the solar calendar. If they succeed, they'll see a new day; if not, they'll have plunged the world into eternal darkness.

How it works

Guests pass challenges to earn the pieces of the solar calendar.

With all the pieces, they must solve the puzzle, align the calendar and reawaken the elements of nature to relight the flame.

The characters

  • The Fire Priests: two guardians of the rite who put the guests to the test.

What's included

  • Theatrical show with two hosts
  • Outdoor mezcal tasting

History and culture in every scene

As in all our experiences, the hosts' dialogue and the event's activities are written with real information about Mexican history and culture. You have fun and, without even noticing, you learn. The hosts explain the origin and meaning of the legend or tradition, and where the symbols, rituals and customs that appear during the night come from.
