The Chinampa Mystery: Garnachas on a Trajinera

Garnachas aboard a trajinera: the boat enters a forbidden canal, and Xochiquetzalli shows guests how to build an offering so the guardian lets them pass.

The story

Chinampas are the floating farm plots the Aztecs built on the lake, and they still exist in Xochimilco.

Xochiquetzalli appears and reveals there's a way to continue the journey.

How it works

Guests build an offering to the canal spirits with the items the goddess gives them. If the guardian is pleased, they can finish their trip.

Meanwhile they taste classic garnachas — Mexico's beloved fried street snacks.

The characters

  • The Guardian of the Canals: a stern protector of the waters.
  • Xochiquetzalli: goddess of flowers and the travelers' ally.
