Mexican salsas on Talavera plates

Harry Potter and the Order of the Molcajete

A dinner show of magic and heat: a young wizard learns in a Mexican kitchen that mole is the oldest potion. A tasting of salsas, moles and Mexican history.

The story

An ancestral recipe capable of changing destiny — mole poblano — is in danger, and Don Chuy challenges the wizard and the audience to complete it. To succeed, they must find the “philosopher's stone”: the tecolote, the pestle of the molcajete (a volcanic-stone mortar), a symbol of wisdom and tradition.

Each act reveals the ritual origins of salsas, the mestizo story of mole — convents, cacao, spices and controlled chaos — and why making a good mole is harder than any potion.

How it works

A progressive tasting of salsas, from “doesn't burn” (beginner level) to the extreme “home-wrecker” (level: verbal warning), and of traditional moles: black, green and pipián, with their history and comparisons to magic potions.

Guests take the “Salsa Exam” — identify ingredients, guess the origin — and, by table, follow the clues to the tecolote. The winning team “passes the class.”

The characters

  • Don Chuy: strict, ironic and with zero patience for badly made recipes.
  • The young wizard: naive and convinced magic solves everything… until he tries the wrong salsa.
