Grandma's Ordeal: A Tamale Workshop

A tamale workshop in a colonial courtyard: grandma broke her arm and tonight's tamales aren't ready. Cooking challenges, competition and a prize.

The story

Making tamales is a team effort and a family tradition all over Mexico.

Grandma begs guests to get her out of this jam.

How it works

In teams, participants take on cooking challenges and compete for a prize while learning proper tamale technique with a chef.

The characters

  • Grandma: expert, bossy and with her arm in a cast.
  • The Granddaughter: lots of goodwill, little experience.

  • Theatrical show with two characters
  • Cooking challenges and a prize

History and culture in every scene

As in all our experiences, the hosts' dialogue and the event's activities are written with real information about Mexican history and culture. You have fun and, without even noticing, you learn. While you cook or taste, the hosts explain the origin of each ingredient and technique and its place in Mexican history.
