Ice Cream Nostalgia: Handmade Paletas and Nieves

A Mexican ice pop shop with a show: the master paletero stops production to teach how nieve was made by hand. Workshop version or a tasting with challenges.

The story

Nieve de garrafa was made by hand-cranking a metal canister inside salted ice — a job of patience and strength.

The paletero wants his “employees” — the guests — to experience it.

How it works

There are two versions: a workshop where guests learn to make handmade nieve, or a tasting version with assorted physical challenges.

The characters

  • The Paletero: a nostalgic, demanding master.
  • The Daughter: tries to modernize the business… and mediate.

What's included

  • Theatrical show with two characters
  • Nieve workshop or physical challenges
  • Tasting of paletas and nieves

What you take home

  • Knowing how handmade nieve is made
  • Appreciating the paletero's craft
  • A cool, fun treat

History and culture in every scene

As in all our experiences, the hosts' dialogue and the event's activities are written with real information about Mexican history and culture. You have fun and, without even noticing, you learn. While you cook or taste, the hosts explain the origin of each ingredient and technique and its place in Mexican history.

Format and customization

“Ice Cream Nostalgia” is one of our Mexican cooking classes productions. We can adapt it to your venue, group size, menu and language, as a private event or on dates open to the public.
