The story
Monsieur Remontel, a French pastry chef in Tacubaya, accuses the Mexican state — symbolically represented by General Santa Anna — of letting drunken officers wreck his shop, of refusing compensation and, worst of all, of a total lack of culinary refinement.
Amid laughter, ridiculous evidence and historical facts, guests discover how a seemingly trivial complaint ended in the bombardment of Veracruz, a naval blockade, Santa Anna's amputated leg and a debt Mexico would pay for decades.
How it works
Guests split into defense lawyers for the Mexican state, representatives of the pastry chef and a popular jury.
There are absurdly solemn arguments, testimonies, exaggerated “evidence,” a symbolic and controlled Meringue War, and a final verdict that may follow history… or create an absurd alternative timeline.
