The story
The earth roars without warning and the field splits open like a living wound. As church bells ring for the last time, Dr. Atl — painter, scientist and self-declared madman — finds his perfect obsession: to him the volcano isn't a tragedy, it's a masterpiece.
Beside him, Nahui Olin, a poetic and provocative force, describes the brutal beauty of the moment. Guests are farmers, families, merchants and the devout gathered for dinner when reality catches up with them.
How it works
Each table represents a neighborhood. Every 15 minutes the lava covers a zone of the room: that table is “destroyed” and must seek refuge at the others.
Tables receiving refugees decide whom to accept and whom to turn away. Each course marks a stage of the disaster, and the lava doesn't distinguish between good and bad: it just advances.
