Golden Age Cantina: “The New Star”

An immersive night in a 1950s cantina: two legends of Mexico's Golden Age of cinema look for the next star among the guests through melodrama challenges.

The story

Cinema is changing and the studios demand new blood. Tonight, between drinks, dishes and tears, it will be decided who deserves the big screen.

Guests are supporting actors — the loyal friend, the wise drunk, the forgotten singer, the second-tier heartthrob. Everyone thinks they have “it,” but only one will leave as the New Star. The winner is whoever understands the spirit of Mexican cinema: exaggerate with elegance and suffer in style.

How it works

The evening unfolds like a film, with five challenges: fake machismo, cinematic crying, the immortal line, the movie drunk scene and the impossible love.

The hosts direct live, score the performances and finally crown the New Star with a cinematic press photo.

The characters

  • Two Golden Age stars: a legendary leading man and diva, in costume, who run the casting.

What's included

  • Hosts in costume
  • Traditional Mexican themed dinner
  • Cantina drinks (with and without alcohol)
  • Live music or a playlist of boleros and rancheras
  • Live acting direction
  • New Star award and a final press photo

What you take home

  • Having lived a movie, not just watched one
  • Laughing at the clichés without mocking the culture
  • Discovering who has a leading role in their soul… and who was born to steal scenes

History and culture in every scene

As in all our experiences, the hosts' dialogue and the event's activities are written with real information about Mexican history and culture. You have fun and, without even noticing, you learn. The characters share real facts, dates and anecdotes from Mexican history; the fiction is there to make those facts stick.
